La band si è formata ufficialmente nel 2014 a Nashville, quando Paul Jason Klein si è stabilito nella città ed ha iniziato a lavorare con Jake Goss e Les Priest, i quali precedentemente portavano avanti un altro progetto musicale chiamato WRLDS.cite-ref-0-3-0[3] In seguito alla formazione dei LANY, il progetto dei WRLDS è stato interrotto.cite-ref-0-3-1[3] Le prime pubblicazioni del gruppo sono state le canzoni mwiaHot Lights e mwiqWalk Away, uscite su mwigSoundCloud in forma anonima.cite-ref-0-3-2[3] Sempre nel 2014 hanno pubblicato l'EP mwjwAcronyms in maniera indipendente, riuscendo ad attirare una certa attenzione mediatica con il brano mwkaILYSB.cite-ref-4[4] Immediatamente dopo hanno pubblicato i singoli mwlqMade in Hollywood e mwlgBad, Bad, Bad.

I LANY hanno suonato all'Alcatraz di Milano martedì 7 novembre 2023, come unica data italiana per il loro tour europeo del nuovo album “Beautiful Blur” uscito il 29 Settembre.
